Every day, we are all bombarded with images of how we should live our lives, how we should look, how we should spend our money, what we should eat, what we should wear, and more.
I admit that from time to time, I become envious at the pictures of the models with their long, silky well-shaped legs; or photos that grace Times Square of vacation spots I know I'll never visit.
Then I check myself. What good is it to be envious or jealous? We all have something to offer the world. If we can't offer it to the world, then we can offer our gifts to even just one or two people. Everyone benefits.
I may not have that model's legs, but I was blessed with peaches and cream skin and luminous blue eyes, which some have told me they get lost in.
Jealousy simply doesn't serve me.
We ALL have gifts to offer the world. Someone wants what we have. Perhaps that leggy model may want my listening skills.
If I'm not happy with my current circumstances, I'll look for ways to ameliorate them. If I cannot improve them, then I'll look for ways to cope and find delight in things that do make me happy; things that are within reach.
I just learned of an acquaintance who is on a cruise in the Bahamas as I write this. She's been through a lot and fully deserves it. I, too, "deserve" a cruise but it won't happen for a long time if at all as I care for my handicaped husband. (Don't suggest that it can be done; I know it can, I just choose not to at this time.)
Am I jealous of this person? HECK, NO!!! I'm genuinely happy for her. Her happiness is MY happiness. Her joy is MY joy. She posted pictures and I took that as an opportunity to have a mini vacation that didn't cost me a cent.
By feeling others' happiness, we increase our own. It's all energy (spoken like a true Aquarius!) and by absorbing and harnessing that energy of positivity, we can let go of anger, hatred, envy, and all that prevents us from going forward in life.
Does life in general get me down sometimes? Of course. I'm having a human experience. But once I look at the bigger picture, that I'm here for a different purpose, I can step back and say, "Ok...that woman is wealthy beyond measure because that is the path she chose and she's learning from it." Or, "That man is travelling the world because he, too, chose that path before birth and he, too, is learning from it."
I simply CHOOSE not to be jealous of those people just because they've chosen a different path in life.
I am NOT travelling the world, or becoming wealthy beyond measure, because I'm here to do the work that I'm meant to do. I"m learning just as everyone else is. It's that simple.
So....what are some ways YOU can find joy in another's fortune? And, what gifts can you offer to the world?
